Memorial Day at ABC

Memorial Day weekend is upon us, which means Summer has officially arrived!  Our ABC Kids will hit the road for our Pre-teen Camp on Memorial Day, and the summer calendar will only pick up from there.  We are looking forward to the student ministry’s Beach Camp, the worship ministry’s Creative Arts Camp, ABC Kids’ Vacation Bible School, and of course our church-wide patriotic outreach, Freedom Over Austin.  Summer will be jam packed with wonderful outreaches and opportunities for our church to connect with each other and our community.

Memorial Day always brings a spirit of excitement and anticipation for the summer, but the holiday should also bring a spirit of humble reflection.  We can enjoy this coming summer because countless men and women have paid the highest sacrifice to preserve and protect our freedom.  This Sunday, we will take time to remember those heroes and pray for their families who have been left behind.  But we will also take time to remember the greatest sacrifice that was ever made by the greatest man, Jesus Christ.  We will observe the Lord’s Supper together and remember that our freedom came through the death of the Son of God.

Jesus told us, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).  Through the blood of Jesus, we are now adopted sons and daughters of God and friends of Jesus.  Because of His sacrifice, we are now called to live sacrificial lives for His glory.  We will unpack this idea of being a “living sacrifice” this Sunday on our special Memorial Day weekend.  If you are staying in town, I hope you plan to join us at 9am or 11:11am.  Invite a friend to join you, and I’ll see you Sunday.

Onward and upward,

Jonathan Spencer
